SLO County Sudden Oak Death (SOD) BLITZ Registration 2025

Thank you for your interest in participating in the 2025 SLO COUNTY SOD BLITZ. Your participation is crucial to the success of this program.

The 2025 SOD BLITZ Trainings are available online at www.sodblitz.org.

Packet Pickup - packets can be picked up anytime on Friday, April 25th after 1PM.

Collecting will take place on Saturday April 26th,  Sunday April 27th & Monday April 28th.

Procedures:

• Fill out the info below to sign up for the 2025 SOD Blitz in San Luis Obispo County
  • Please visit sodblitz.org to view the items to get you ready for the 2025 SOD BLITZ,
  • Register for the entire Blitz project online (this is separate from the SLO registration)
  • View the 15 minute training video
  • Download the free app SODmap mobile from the Apple App store . If you do not download this app be prepared to otherwise obtain accurate latitude and longitude coordinates for your sampling locations as explained in the training video.
  • Please access all three to be fully trained and ready.

• Picking a place to sample: Go to this website to get a map of good sampling locations in San Luis Obispo County that have bay laurel or tanoak trees. Pick location(s) you want to sample. Click here to see the map of 2023 and 2024 sampling locations in Google Earth.

THEN

• Go to the Google document at this website to register where you intend to sample. Check the table to make sure that no one else has already picked the same location, otherwise you will need to pick another location. Enter your chosen location(s) on the table.

PICK UP

Anytime on Friday April 25th after 1pm, pick up sampling packets at the following locations:

• San Luis Obispo Agriculture Department in San Luis Obispo - 2156 Sierra Way # A, San Luis Obispo, CA 93401 .Drive around to the parking lot in the back. Look for the plastic bin near back door by the picnic table on the Johnson side of the building. There will be signs and arrows pointing the way to the bin.

• San Luis Obispo Agriculture Department in Templeton - 350 N Main St, Templeton, CA 93465. Bin will be located outside by the front doors.

An expert will staff the info table at both SLO Ag Department locations on Saturday, April 26th, from 10:00 AM-11:00 AM if you want additional help.

Packets will be in the bin labeled SOD BLITZ. Each packet will have instructions, data sheets,sampling envelopes and other materials as explained in the training.

Please mark the sign-in sheet with your name, email and how many packets you have taken to sample.

Conduct your sampling on Saturday, April 26th, Sunday, April 27th, and Monday April 28th (before packet pick up).

DROP OFF

Drop off your completed packets with samples and data sheets in the bins at the Agriculture Department locations indicated above before 10:00 AM on TUESDAY, April 29th.

Bins for packet drop off will be labeled: SOD BLITZ. Please put a check by your name on the sign-in sheet when you have dropped off your packets to ensure all packets have been returned.
