2/28 - 3/1 Piles

Hi all,

YGPBC is planning to assist a landowner with pile burning on 2/28 and 3/1, between Raymond and Mariposa.

When: 2/28 and 3/1, plan on being at the site for briefing at 9:30AM each day and finishing up around 4:00 PM.

Where: Raymond (exact location will be released to registered participants)

We will be discussing best practices for pile burning and burning approximately 50 piles over two days. Please come on out and join the Burn Coop and landowner for a fun day of burning, training, and education. The exact location will be released to registered participants, but if planning travel time, please note that this property is roughly 30 minutes from Mariposa and 1 hour from Oakhurst.

Please come prepared for the day by:

  • Wearing natural fiber clothing, such as leather boots (not steel toes!), hat (not straw!), jeans, and long-sleeve cotton t-shirt. We will have Nomex (fire-resistant) clothing available for all who are interested, in addition to hard hats, eye protection, and leather gloves.
  • Bringing food and a way to carry water. We will have snacks available but not enough for a substantial meal. A backpack may also be helpful as we will not have scheduled breaks and everyone is expected to take breaks as needed.
  • Bringing any tools or equipment that you think would be useful for accomplishing the objectives of the burn. Specifically, a weedwacker, hand tools, and chainsaws will be useful for this property. Please note that this is not a training environment for chainsaw use-- I encourage folks who are familiar with using chainsaws to do so. If you are interested in learning to use a chainsaw, stay tuned for a YGPBC Intro to Chainsaws class in the fall. Additionally, Yosemite Adult School offers free S-212 Wildland Fire Chainsaw classes periodically.

As always, these dates may change due to weather. I will confirm with registered participants two days before that the burn is taking place.

Please add additional folks you are bringing, including kids. Having an accurate head count is important for our logistics. Feel free to email me with any questions at lwisdom@ucanr.edu.
