Pre-registration required by April 8th, 2025
1.0 hour Other DPR CEUs Pending.
Who: Viticulturists, vineyard managers, license holders, grower relations,
field scouts, field workers, interns, and anyone in the winegrape
industry interested in learning how to ID sharshooter and
leafhopper species commonly found in the vineyard.
Why: Quite a few sharpshooters vector Xylella fastidiosa that causes
Pierce’s disease in grapevines. In addition, three species of leafhoppers can cause
direct damage to grapevines. Other species of sharpshooters and leafhoppers are
present in vineyards that do not vector this pathogen nor feed on grapevines but
can be found in yellow sticky traps or by sweep net sampling. It is important to
become familiar with how to ID sharpshooters and leafhoppers of importance in
sticky traps and in sweep net samples to know when to implement important IPM
control measures.
