SONOMA COUNTY CAMP RULES

1. Cell phones NOT ALLOWED at 4-H Camp. If brought, they will be collected and put in the camp safe until the end of camp. The break from technology helps kids be in the moment and appreciate the beauty and sounds of nature without interruption.  Of course if you have any concerns about your child or their experience, we will have a landline where you can reach your camp coordinators at any time. We will also contact you if we have any concerns about your child, or if your child comes to us with any issues.
2. Campers may go barefoot in shower and water activities areas only (shower shoes are recommended).
3. Be considerate of others. Do not push people, throw rocks or food.
4. Practice safety. Do not run in camp.
5. Hikers require permission from the Hike Director, must sign up, and two adults must accompany each hiking group.
6. Socks, long pants, and sturdy shoes must be worn on all hikes. Sandals or thongs are not allowed AT ANY TIME.
7. Preserve our camp atmosphere. Leave curling irons, hair dryers, and all food and drink at home. iPods may only be used on the bunks.
8. Respect the camp schedule and always stay with the group or program to which you are assigned.
9. Only adults may have cars at camp. Staffers are not permitted to drive to camp.
10. You may leave camp only with permission from the adult advisor, and with two adult chaperones to accompany you.
11. Alcohol, illegal drugs, cigarettes and chewing tobacco may not be brought to camp, or be used at camp.
12. Do not bring knives, slingshots, firearms or fireworks to camp.
13. Campers will remain in their assigned sleeping areas at night unless accompanied by two adult chaperones.
14. No boys in the girl’s sleeping area, and no girls in the boy’s sleeping area after opening ceremony and before closing ceremony.
15. Fighting and threatening physical abuse is not allowed. Purposefully inflicting harm will not be tolerated.
16. PENALTY FOR INFRACTION OF THESE RULES MAY RESULT IN ANY OR ALL OF THE FOLLOWING:
17. Your parents will be called to come take you home.
18. You will not be allowed to attend the next Sonoma County Summer Camp session.
19. You will be expelled from 4-H club work.

I will follow the 4-H Code of Conduct (rules) and I will:
1. Be nice, kind, helpful, and respectful to other 4-H members; and to adult volunteers, youth leaders, 4-H
staff, and other adults in charge.
2. Be honest, honor my commitments, and accept responsibility for my choices.
3. Follow all health and safety requirements and guidelines related to 4-H activities, gatherings, projects, etc.
4. Use language that is respectful and kind. Not use curse words.
5. Not have or use alcohol, tobacco (like cigarettes, e-cigarettes, or chew) or other drugs (unless my doctor
gives them to me).
6. Not bother or attack others, not carry or use a weapon; and not do anything else illegal or unsafe.
7. Know that adults can search my things (like my backpack) if they think I might have broken the 4-H rules.
8. Not touch anyone in a way that is too affectionate, and not engage in sexual behavior.

10. Not do things outside of 4-H that are harmful to anyone in 4-H or the 4-H program.

While attending 4-H overnight events, I will:
1. Be in my sleeping area when I’m supposed to be there.
2. Not leave the grounds unless an adult in charge gives me permission, and only if there are two adults with
me.
3. Only enter my own assigned sleeping area and will not invite any kids who aren’t 4-H members into the
sleeping areas.
4. Be responsible for any damage caused by my actions.
5. Follow all the rules for that event.
Consequences
Anyone who sees someone break the Member Code of Conduct should tell the adult in charge right away. That
adult will tell that member’s parent or guardian. Consequences for breaking the 4-H rules may include:
1. Sending the member home.
2. Having the member meet with 4-H adults, talk about how the member can learn from what they’ve done,
and decide what the member should do to make up for any harm done.
3. Charging the member (or their parents/guardians) for the cost of repairs to property that the member
damaged.
4. Giving the member a warning, barring them from future events, suspending their membership, or terminating
their membership.
5. Taking the member to the nearest law enforcement agency or other proper authority ✻

Welcome to the staff portion of the Sonoma County 4-H Camp program.  We invite your youth to apply for the privilege of being a part of an awesome team.  The staff members are responsible for running the camp.  This provides them with experience in the life skills of:  leadership, cooperation, teamwork, both long-term and short-term planning, time management, conflict resolution and problem solving, just to name a few. 

We want to clarify with the youth and parents, what is expected of a 4-H Camp Staffer.  Please note that by becoming a staffer through the 4-H program, your youth will become a 4-H member and will be held responsible for adhering to the California State 4-H Code of Conduct.

Other expectations implemented by the Camp Steering Committee are as follows:

1. Attend the full week of camp,
2. Attend at least one Staff Training Event. Dates to be determined.   
3. Work at least a two-hour shift at Chicken Que as a representative of 4-H Camp. Camp is responsible for staffing the recycling booths throughout the day.  We also have an information booth the will be staffed by the Camp Directors and a craft booth to be organized by staffers. Chicken Que is scheduled for May 5, 2024 and is held at the Sonoma County Fairgrounds.
4. Be active in at least one committee as a member or a chairperson. This requires meeting outside of the regularly scheduled camp meetings.  Examples of committees are: Steering Committee (camp planning), education, marketing, night hikes, recreation, deans and more.
5. Be an active member of an education group that selects, plans and executes their education before (typically at Spring STW) and during camp.
6. Learn and implement the staff position assigned, such as Director, Dean or Host/Hostess and more.
7. Help with set-up and cleanup at Staff meetings.
8. Attend at least 80% of the staff training meetings. Meetings are at the Rohnert Park 4-H Center on the 4Th Monday of each month, January through June.
9. The youth must meet age requirements, have attended camp as a camper for one year and receive approval of both the Steering Committee and Camp Coordinators.

Being a Camp Staffer is an important responsibility.  We ask that you and your youth view this opportunity as a job position.  We appreciate that you will make every effort to support the youth in fulfilling their responsibilities as a Camp Staffer.  We understand that your youth may have conflicts due to sports, school and other 4-H project commitments but we ask that you or your youth notify one of the Camp Coordinators about these conflicts before the meetings.

Please note that we will be using an evaluation tool to determine a youth’s eligibility to be on staff based on their success in meeting all of the criteria on their evaluation.  The youth staff will be provided with a copy of their evaluation upon request.

We also appreciate any help we can get from parents, as we are required by law to meet adult supervision criteria in order to have camp.  There are opportunities to help in many different ways both at camp and before camp.

Please be aware that there will NOT be supervision provided before or after the meetings, outside the 4-H Center.  Staffers are prohibited by State policy to drive other youth to camp or staff meetings and will not be covered under 4-H insurance.
