24-25 Kids Composting School Speaker Requests

We are the Composting Education Program and we serve schools throughout Santa Clara County. Our certified Master Composter volunteers offer composting information and demonstrations on a by request basis. We are a volunteer run program so we will do our best to accommodate the date, class size, and activity you request, but here are some things you should know about our program:

We will do our best to respond to your request within 1 week of submission. If you do not receive a response, please email Victoria Roberts at vrroberts@ucanr.edu so she can help coordinate.
We teach a maximum of 30 students per Master Composter at a time and may need to break up larger requests into smaller groups
Kids lessons are typically 30 minutes to 1 hour; we can adjust depending on number of students, classes, and specific lesson requested

Because our program is based on request and volunteer signups, we may need to find another date so let us know a month in advance what possible dates are so that we can give our volunteers plenty of time to schedule your request

Please choose ONE desired Activity

Activity 1: Vermicomposting (composting with worms) - (30-45 minutes) Presentation and hands-on demonstration on vermicomposting, worm and soil biology, benefits of composting. Recommended for younger students, especially K-5.

Activity 2: Compost Basics - (30-60 Mins) Presentation about the benefits of composting, how to compost, environmental impacts, soil biology. Recommended for older students, especially 6-8 and high school.

Activity 3: School Event Request - Request to table at a school event, like an Earth Day celebration, plant sale, or science night. We will be able to answer any questions on vermicomposting and backyard composting. We will also have materials on composting information and resources. ✻
