Pruning and Care of Wisteria
Program: This class covers the growth and training methods that will provide optimal flowering. It includes a discussion of the culture and history of wisteria and identification and discussion of the advantages and disadvantages of the different species of wisteria.
Speaker: Pete Churgel is a Certified Aesthetic Pruner (CAP) and an ISA Certified Arborist and is an instructor in the Merritt College Landscape Horticultural Program. Pete has taught hands-on aesthetic pruning at Merritt College and at the Hakone Japanese Garden in Saratoga, the Cihal Japanese Garden in Prague, and has done volunteer pruning at the Japanese gardens in Fresno, Oakland, and Seattle. He was a long-time member and pruning instructor for the Alameda Master Gardener Program, and a member of the East Bay Bonsai Society, having many years of experience with Bonsai. In his business, he specializes in Aesthetic Pruning to enhance the beauty of small trees, shrubs and vines, including the the pruning of Japanese, Mediterranean, English, and California native gardens, to accentuate the scale of a natural scene and to emphacize the focal point plants.
