CWSS 2024 Student Scholarship Application

The California Weed Science Society is currently offering scholarships to both undergraduate and graduate students with an interest in weed or invasive plant management. California is a large, diverse state and there is ample opportunity and need to encourage students to help solve weed issues facing agriculture and the environment. Undergraduate and graduate students will be considered separately for each award which will be given, based on the merit of the applicants, in the range of $1,000-$2,000.

To be eligible for these awards, the student must be pursuing a degree at an accredited 2-year college or 4-year university in California. Preference will be given to students who can demonstrate a strong interest in weed or invasive plant management.

All applicants need to submit three items to be considered for the scholarships:

1. Resume: stating current GPA, work experience, university/community activities and honors, and a list of relevant courses taken. (Note: transcripts may be requested.)
2. A statement (500 words maximum) of academic and career goals that reflects the student’s interest in weed or invasive plant management.
3. One letter of support from the student’s academic advisor.

Recipients of these awards will be strongly encouraged to attend the California Weed Science Society annual meeting in Sacramento, California, January 22-24th, 2024. Travel support to attend the meeting will be available, as well as the opportunity to participate in the student contest (with cash prizes).
