This is a proactive measure by the University of California, Agricultural and Natural Resources (UCANR) to control the Spotted Lanternfly. The spotted lanternfly (Lycorma delicatula) is an invasive insect that is currently in the mid-Atlantic United States and has the potential to invade California and have a profound impact on our agriculture and our landscapes. The preferred host plant of the spotted lanternfly is the Tree-of-Heaven (Alianthus altissima) which is considered an Invasive weed tree in California.
The data you submit below will help the Master Gardener-Invasive Species Scouts locate and report your sighting of Tree-of-Heaven. This information will be reported to the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA). The CDFA will use the data to allocate funding for local eradication efforts. YOU will be helping this statewide effort.
