CAMBP OC Hub Apiary Tour 2024

 

Thank you for choosing the California Master Beekeeper Program Orange County Hub as your agricultural education destination to explore the world of honey bees.

Upcoming tours led by certified CAMBP OC instructors are available as follows. Please note - space is limited.

Apiary Tours 2024

Available Dates: Saturday, May 11th; Friday, June 7th; Friday, July 12th; Saturday, August 24th; Friday, September 20th                            

Time: 10am - 12pm

Location: South Coast Research and Extension Center, Irvine CA

Cost: $20 per person (must be 18 years old) - online pre-registration by credit card only

Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) provided for use during tour - beekeeper’s suit, hat, veil and gloves.

All participants are required  to wear closed toe shoes. It is highly suggest to bring a filled water bottle.

Tour Information

General Goals:

  • To teach the public about the importance of honey bees in our world.
  • To learn about honey bees and their habits in a hive
  • To showcase different activities taking place at SCREC

Learning outcomes:

  • Will be able to explain how to light a smoker
  • Will be able to describe a complete hive inspection
  • Will be able show eggs, larvae, and capped brood
  • Will be able to distinguish food sources in the hive: pollen, nectar & honey
  • Will be able to identify different honey bees (queen, worker, drone)
  • Will be provided with information about how participants, should they choose continue to learn about caring for Honey Bees in our Apiary
