UC Garden Nutrition Extenders will be required to attend an initial training totaling 32 hours, not including homework assignments. In order to become a UC Garden Nutrition Extender, you will be required to attend all trainings in a session.

Do you anticipate any problems completing all training hours? If so, please describe.

UC Garden Nutrition Extenders will be required to provide 36 hours of volunteer garden nutrition education work per year (this includes: direct teaching in the garden, developing garden committees, conducting farm to school activities and food tastings, etc.) and 9 hours of continuing education from year two on, to continue as a certified UC GNE. Do you anticipate any problems meeting those requirements? ✻

If you will be serving as a UC GNE outside of your place of work, we require that you complete the Adult 4H Volunteer Enrollment process including a background and fingerprint check. Do you have any concerns? ✻

There is a one time fee of $250 for the training and materials. There may be additional $60-$95 in annual fees to cover liability insurance, TB testing and fingerprinting when volunteering at schools (for non employees). Please contact the coordinator if you have further questions or need a scholarship.
