The four Essential Elements of a 4-H experience are based on broad research in youth development and tied to positive outcomes for youth. Great camps not only deliver the Essential Elements through their camp programs, they have staff that are aware of why these elements are important at camp. They understand they serve as a guide and role model and learn to avoid problem behaviors by meeting children’s needs and explaining expectations beforehand. When problems do arise they understand that immediate, appropriate intervention is necessary.
In order to assess your awareness of your camp’s participant development and behavior, please answer each question below. After you have completed this assessment, you will be directed to a website where you can get additional resources to help you expand your skills, knowledge and abilities to provide staff with skills and information so they can be a great guide and role model.
