California Mustang Camp

Modoc County Survey Header Image

June 28, 10am - June 29, 2pm, 2024

Lassen County Fairgrounds, Susanville, CA

Youth ages 9-19 eligible for camp as of 12/31/24, limited to 25 youth.

This overnight camp will provide youth across the state the opportunity to learn about the federal entities dedicated to managing public lands, rangelands, wild horses, burros, and the relationship between healthy lands and healthy horses. The unique symbolism surrounding wild horses and burros makes management a unique problem, and is why education is crucial for implementing effective management solutions. Research has shown that providing educational opportunities outside of the classroom is an effective way of cultivating personal interest and conservation stewardship in youth. Our hope is that this camp is a step towards understanding and appreciating the uniqueness of our wild horses and burros.

We will be utilizing the campground and facilities at the fairgrounds for overnight accommodations. Meals provided - June 28 - Lunch, dinner June 29 - breakfast, lunch
